  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Wet Ingredients:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Mix-Ins:
  • 1 ½ cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup white chocolate chips optional
  • ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts optional
  • Flaky sea salt for topping optional

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prep:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients:
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Cream Butter & Sugars:
  • In a large bowl, stir melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  • Add Eggs & Vanilla:
  • Mix in the egg, then the egg yolk, followed by vanilla extract.
  • Combine:
  • Gradually stir in the dry ingredients. Don’t overmix—just until combined.
  • Add the Mix-Ins:
  • Fold in chocolate chips (and white chocolate + nuts if using).
  • Scoop & Bake:
  • Scoop dough into balls and place on baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
  • Sprinkle sea salt on top if desired.
  • Bake 10–12 minutes, or until edges are golden. Centers may look soft.
  • Cool & Enjoy:
  • Let cookies sit on the baking sheet for 5 mins before transferring to a wire rack. Enjoy warm or cooled!

Notes

  • Add 1 tsp cornstarch for extra softness.
  • Chill dough 30 mins for thicker cookies.
  • Swap in peanut butter chips, caramel chips, or espresso powder for fun variations.
  • Make dairy-free with plant-based butter and dairy-free chocolate chips.
  • Freeze dough balls for up to 3 months—bake from frozen with 1–2 extra minutes.
