Best French Toast Casserole

Ingredients
  

  • 1 loaf Brioche or Challah bread cubed
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup flour for topping
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar for topping
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter for topping

Instructions
 

  • Place bread cubes in a greased 9x13 dish.
  • Whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt; pour over bread.
  • (Optional) Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Combine flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cold butter until crumbly; sprinkle over bread.
  • Bake for 45–50 minutes until golden and set.
  • Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use stale bread for the best texture and absorption.
If baking straight from the fridge, add 5–10 minutes to the bake time.
Serve with warm maple syrup, fresh berries, or a dusting of powdered sugar.
Ensure butter for the topping is very cold to achieve a crunchy streusel.
