ground cinnamon

ground nutmeg

vanilla extract

box yellow cake mix
about 15.25 oz

unsalted butter
melted

caramel sauce
plus more for serving
Optional: ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts
pinch of cloves or ginger, flaky sea salt
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish
Spread apple pie filling evenly in the dish
Sprinkle cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla over apples and gently stir to distribute
Sprinkle dry cake mix evenly over the apple layer without mixing
Drizzle melted butter evenly over the cake mix
Spoon caramel sauce across the top and add nuts if using
Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes until golden and bubbling
Let rest 10–15 minutes before serving
Notes
Spread butter evenly to avoid dry spots
Serve warm for best texture
Add a pinch of salt to balance sweetness
